HOW TO STYLE YOUR MANTEL

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

We all know how difficult it can be to style a mantel. Decorating a fireplace mantel is a great way to add visual interest to your living room's focal point.

1. Create a focal point.

We want the mantel to be the focal point of the room, so why not hang a mirror above it? This will give the impression that the room is larger because it reflects light.

If you're looking for a place to hang your artwork, this could be the place for you. You can either hang it on the wall or lean it against the wall for a more modern look.

A television is also ideal for mounting above a mantel, and depending on the size of the mantel, you can be certain to leave enough space for styling the mantel with smaller pieces of decor.

2. Add Decor

Drawing the eye to these, candlesticks, vases, decorative items, and picture frames help to create visual interest. Try to use different sizes of décor to add interest, it also makes you look more experienced in interior styling.

An effective interior design trick for creating a visually appealing mantelpiece is to group decor items in groups of three or five on either side of the mantel. To achieve the desired effect, group three candle stick holders of varying heights and widths. Then on the opposite side use the same technique but with other pieces of decor.

3. Add some greenery

Dried flowers, eucalyptus, pampas grass, and faux topiaries are all lovely additions that will amp up the space above your fireplace. Remember that dried plants are flammable and should be kept at a safe distance from an open flame.

Because Christmas is quickly approaching, why not incorporate pine cones, acorns, seedheads, baubles, LED lights or stockings into your floral arrangement? Choose decorative items in golds, reds, whites, or silvers. Add texture to the festive atmosphere by using feathers and pampass grass inspired by nature.

If you want to go all out, invest in some luxury fabric and create a sophisticated drapery above the mantel; red or gold velvet would be ideal for this look. After purchasing wall safe hooks to install the curtain, it's showtime!
